Ellenville George & John R Hunt Memorial Building

Featured Story
Visit the George and John R. Hunt Memorial in Ellenville, NY

Vacationing in Ellenville, NY offers many exciting opportunities. You will be able to find plenty of great places to go hiking and experience other outdoor activities. You can visit places to dine on regional fare, places to shop for souvenirs, and more. The town also has some historical sites that you may want to visit. One of the most popular and important in the town is the George and John R. Hunt Memorial Building. The building is still a focal point for many activities that take place in the village of Ellenville.

Many of the locals simply refer to the building at the Hunt Memorial Building. It was once the public library in Ellenville. You will find it at Liberty Square, where Liberty Place and Canal Street join. The building was erected in 1917, where it was the Women's Christian Temperance Union. John R. Hunt donated the money for the building.

The building has housed many important businesses over the years. It was a function hall and a library for many years. The Ellenville News, a community newspaper, was there for two years. Over the years, the building fell into disrepair, and efforts are underway for a complete restoration to restore the building to its former glory.

The village still uses the building for many community events, including art exhibits and concerts through the summer. The Chamber of Commerce has its offices in the building now as well. The architecture is beautiful, and the history of the place is quite interesting.

Make sure that you stop by the Hunt Memorial Building when you are staying in or passing through the village of Ellenville. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it is certainly worth a visit.
