Are you one of those people who missed the Ulster County Fair last year? If you are, you probably are still kicking yourself for it. The fair is always a great time whether you are an adult or a child. The best way to make sure that you have the time off that you need to take the family to the fair is to have an advance plan.

The Ulster County Fair in 2011 will take place from August 2 through August 7. Those six days of fun in the sunshine will arrive faster than you can imagine. Before you know it, you will be cruising the food stands looking for something wonderfully decadent to eat and walking along the midway trying to determine the best way to win a stuffed animal for your significant other. Don’t forget all of the rides and exhibits that the fair features.

It’s never too early to start planning for the fair! When you plan early, you will never have to be one of those people lamenting that you missed it. Since the fair is such a popular event each year, you can be sure that other people, including your coworkers, are going to plan to go. Make sure that you ask for your days off in advance, so you do not find yourself stuck with a shift that makes getting to the fair impossible.

Always check to see what the entertainment is going to be at the upcoming fair. They will usually have this information several months in advance. It is a good idea to plan to be there on days that have the type of musical entertainment that you want to see.

Whatever you do, make sure that you don’t miss the fair again. It’s too much fun to miss two years in a row!

Anyone living in or visiting Ellenville, NY who wants to find a great place to eat can head to the Aroma Thyme Bistro. This is a perfect example of fine dining, and you do not have to live in a huge city or pay a fortune to enjoy it.

The proprietors of the Aroma Thyme Bistro have your health in mind, as well as your taste buds. They serve some of the healthiest and morally conscious foods around. This means that you will never eat farmed salmon at the restaurant, nor will you eat chocolate produced by slave labor. They are a certified green restaurant as well.

Of course, all of that would mean nothing if the food wasn’t tasty. You can choose from a variety of seafood, including lobster. They also offer Kobe burgers, steak, pizzas, pasta, and a wide array of other delectable dishes. Vegans will also find many wonderful choices at the Aroma Thyme Bistro.

The restaurant has a conscience, which is refreshing in today’s world. They use only the best and freshest ingredients, and they put their enthusiasm into each dish they prepare, from the appetizers to the desserts. Residents and visitors will want to stop by Aroma Thyme Bistro. The combination of great food and great service is what helps to set the restaurant above others. It might just become their favorite place to eat besides their own dinging room!

You might want to take the family there for a special occasion, or perhaps take someone special there before you head out to the Shadowland Theater for a show. The restaurant is one of the most popular in the region. If you haven’t had the change to have a meal there yet, then why are you waiting?

Residents of Ellenville are probably already familiar with their town library and all of the services that it provides. The library has all of the books that you want from the classics to new books that are just now hitting the shelves, including books by local authors. You will be able to find all the reading materials and research materials you need, from novels and nonfiction titles to periodicals. The library has many events for adults and children as well. However, the library offers far more than most.

Those who are new to Ellenville, and those who are on vacation, may not know that the library is also a museum! The Terwilliger House Museum is a 19th century house built in the Queen Anne Victorian Style. The library’s local history collection resides here.

You will be able to find a number of interesting historical pieces in the museums. They have a permanent collection of bottles and glass jugs from Ellenville Glass Works, as well as stonework from Ellenville Pottery. These were very popular in the area over a hundred years ago, when they were manufactured, and then were sent to other locations via the D&H Canal.

On the second floor, you will find photographs and memorabilia in the Joseph Y. Resnick room. A native of Ellenville, he served in Congress in the 1960s. You can also see many other artifacts including old photos and post cards. Check out the cemetery records, old yearbooks, and more. The museum is open on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, from noon to 3PM, as well as by appointment.

Take some time to explore the library and the museum to learn more about the town. The historical value is certainly worth the time it takes to visit the museum.

If you are going on vacation in or around Ellenville, NY and you have a love of history, you’re on your way to the right place! You will find many great historic sites located throughout the area. Here are a few of the highlights that you will not want to miss on your vacation. Of course, if you are a resident and you have not yet visited these locations, you will want to check them out soon.

Take the time to visit the George & John R. Hunt Memorial Building. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it is still in use for some community functions. Another site listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Ellenville is the D&H Canal. Even the U.S. Post Office in Ellenville is a historic place that you will want to visit!

The town and the surrounding area also have some other places of historic interest that you should visit. The library is home to the Ellenville Museum. The museum will give you more insight into the history of the town. Greenfield Park Museum, located in Dairyland, is only a short drive from Ellenville, as is the Sullivan County Historical Society.

The land around the village has historic interest too. One of the first roads in America went through the area, and the land was once home to Native Americans. Everywhere you go in the region, you will find that history surrounds you.

When you are traveling through Ulster County, make sure that you keep your eyes open for other historic sites that you want to visit. You can spend your entire vacation learning all about the history of the area, from the Native people and Dutch settlers through the American Revolution and the Industrial Revolution.

The village of Ellenville, NY has a reputation of being a great place to live, and with good reasons. It is a small, quiet town, and it has a number of things going for it. The school does a great job of educating children in the community, and there is always something to do in the area.

How does the village maintain such a peaceful, idyllic presence? One of the biggest factors is the Ellenville Police. The Chief of Police is Phillip Mattracion, supported by Lt. Michael Doria and a large number of highly trained officers. Even though there is rarely a problem in the village, the men and women of the Ellenville Police Department are always quick to respond.

Of course, many other factors contribute to the desirability of the area. The town has everything that you could ever need when it comes to stores, places to dine, and things to do. More importantly, the people of Ellenville help to make it a truly wonderful place to live. They are warm, friendly, and inviting. Those who are new to the community will be welcomed with open arms.

The village is also only a couple of hours from New York City and Albany. If you ever feel as though you need to live the big city life for a day or two, it’s nice to know that you can head to NYC. After you’ve spent some time in the city though, you will probably want to head back to your home in Ellenville for the peace and quiet it offers.

With all of the great things that the village offers, it is no wonder that people are starting to look up real estate in the area to make the move to Ellenville.
